The first Principal was a Josephite Sister and Principals to 2005 were Lay Principals. The current Principal is Br Tony Paterson, who is a Marist Brother, and has been appointed for a six-year term. MacKillop College is a regional co-educational school with students in Years 7-12. There are approximately 600 students. The college is regarded as being in a remote region of Victoria. It is on the River Murray and it draws students from southern New South Wales as well as North Western Victoria. Rainfall is almost zero. Every summer temperatures range from 350-450c. The College is three and a half hours drive from Melbourne and five hours drive from Adelaide. Approximately 80 staff are employed at MacKillop College and focus in recent years has been to revisit and strengthen our Josephite ties. From both a Josephite and Marist perspective, the remote nature of the school corresponds with the whole concept of religious orders working in this sort of environment. One of the other key qualities of the school is the fact that we are working with the wider community to develop and strengthen our ties with the local Koori community. Mary MacKillop would have approved of this. |
