Clairvaux MacKillop College
Welcome
Clairvaux MacKillop College takes its place responsibly and with a strong sense of identity in the local community setting of Upper Mt Gravatt, a busy southern suburb of Brisbane. The College reflects the best ideals of Australian society, while holding to a wider vision of itself as an expression of Christian faith, in the Catholic tradition, and to the essential character of its founding orders, the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Joseph. The motto “by effort and faith” shows our emphasis on spirituality as the basis of our many educational pursuits. Our Mission Statement refers to the Gospel image of Jesus teaching the people of his times. By stating the importance of faith alongside effort, we adopt this example for our own community. In a society that challenges faith while offering greater freedoms than previously, we affirm Gospel values, which we believe will help families interpret the influences on them, and therefore allow our young people to assess their situations and make decisions about the kind of future they choose.
The College mission is to provide education and spiritual formation for its community. We hold up St Mary MacKillop and Blessed Edmund Rice as role models for the young who seek education within our community. Our academic and vocational programs are therefore integrated with sound personal and social development, as well as an introduction to the traditions of prayer and reflection so deeply a part of our religious culture. We teach for physical and intellectual health, clarity of mind and soul, awareness of human dignity, a sense of personal self worth, the meaningfulness of life, and the value of one’s own decisions and actions.
This formation of students is a responsibility shared between teachers and parents. It is intended to develop in our students the attributes demonstrated in the work of our founders and expressed in our dual charism, that of Edmund Rice and Mary MacKillop.
College Mission Statement
The college enrols students from year 8-12 and has a student population of around 1200 students. The spirit of the college is a reflection of its aims and heritage which can be found in the Mission Statement that has Luke 9:11 as its central theme:
Jesus Welcomed the crowds, spoke to them about the Kingdom of God, and healed those who needed it" (Luke 9:11)
