Mackillop College
College Profile
MacKillop Catholic College is a co-educational secondary College located in the Hobart suburb of Mornington. Established in 1994, the College strives to develop a unique identity of faith, hope and love based on the vision of Jesus Christ. As a community of students, parents and staff working together towards common goals, we endeavour to be welcoming, open to and supportive of each other. Inspired by Jesus and His Good News, and with Saint Mary MacKillop as our model, we emphasis the dignity and merit of all and we dedicate ourselves to being a community which shares responsibility for a holistic education which is student-centred, has a strong sense of belonging, and contributes to the development of a more fully human society.
The College opened its doors to 59 students in 1994. By 1997 student numbers had risen to 340, in 1998 there were over 400 students, and in 2006 the ceiling enrolment of 560 students was reached. Its student population is spread across five streams, from Years 7 to 10. The total 2011 enrolment of MacKillop Catholic College was 557 students. The breakdown of the individual year level numbers and gender is shown below: MacKillop Catholic College offers a broad curriculum suited to the needs, abilities and interests of the students. The College curriculum seeks to engage all students to provide effective and excellent education to all our students and aims to prepare them for further study, for work and for life as young adults developing into well educated, spiritually aware, and ethical young adults. MacKillop Catholic College has an inclusive enrolment policy, one that does not exclude students on the basis of academic or physical ability. Support programs and resources are provided for students to cater for their individual educational needs. We aim to provide encouragement and opportunity for each student to reach excellence and to develop his or her God-given talents. In 2010 the College commenced its VET pathway courses in Building and Construction and Hospitality. The College provides many co-curricular opportunities for individuals in spiritual, creative, sporting, outdoor, outreach and academic areas. Whilst MacKillop Catholic College is a young college, we have developed a strong reputation for excellence in the performing arts, the environment, sustainability and a whole-school literacy program.
